Game History:

Parker Brothers signed a contract with Charles B Darrow on March 19, 1935 and began selling Monopoly shortly thereafter. They quickly learned that the first patent actually belonged to Elizabeth Magie who's patent (after purchasing it from her) of 1,509,312 was the first to appear on the game after "Trade Mark" and then "Patent Pending".

Game Details:

  • Until 1958, Parker Brothers sold Monopoly with a small utensil box, alongside the board, as a set, as well as the standard long-box version.
  • Board has the alligator texture and is sturdy. The outer label has some discoloration. The playing surface has fading, a few stains, a pen mark and what appears to be a scratch. Please see pictures.
  • The box is sturdy, but worn. There is staining on both the lid and the bottom box. Some of the dividers are missing.
  • The rules and Short Game rules are present.
  • All utensils show wear and are complete. This game has been loved for the last 70 years! This version has 8 wooden playing pieces, all Chance and Community Chest cards as well as all of the property cards. All cards are very worn.

Games contain small pieces and are not intended for children under the age of 4.
