Game History:

Parker Brothers signed a contract with Charles B Darrow on March 19, 1935 and began selling Monopoly shortly thereafter. They quickly learned that the first patent actually belonged to Elizabeth Magie who's patent (after purchasing it from her) of 1,509,312 was the first to appear on the game after "Trade Mark" and then "Patent Pending".

Game Details:

  • Until 1958, Parker Brothers sold Monopoly with a small utensil box, alongside the board, as a set, as well as the standard long-box version. This version contains Darrow's patent which would expire at the end of 1952.
  • Board has the alligator texture and is sturdy with slight warping. The outer label has some staining and a few pieces missing. The inside of the board is in fantastic condition. Unfortunately, someone took a pen and did some tracing.
  • The box is sturdy and in great condition. Both the lid and the bottom box have one taped corner. The bottom box has a few spots with top-layer tears. All of the dividers are missing.
  • The rules and Short Game rules are present.
  • All utensils show some wear and are complete. This version has 8 wooden playing pieces, all Chance and Community Chest cards as well as all of the property cards.

Games contain small pieces and are not intended for children under the age of 4.
