Indulge in the timeless classic of this 1940s Pyrex Primary Green 2.5qt mixing bowl, a must-have for the Pyrex collector.
HISTORY
The 1945 Primary Colors Bowl Set was the first of the opal ware with an overlay of color produced by Pyrex. It was the result of a collaboration between Corning Glass Works and the US Government to create a sturdy, unbreakable dish for WWII soldiers. This version with the deeper foot was redesigned in 1950 with the more familiar, and flatter, bottom. This set did not have the standard model numbers stamped on the bottom.
DETAILS
- The date range for this bowl would be between 1945 and 1949.
- The bowl's capacity is 2.5 quarts and would have been the second largest bowl in the set. The yellow was the largest at 4 quarts.
- It measures approximately 8.5" wide by 4.25" tall
- There are scrapes in the color, mainly around the rim with some on the bowl. It is in remarkable condition considering it's age of 75+ years.
- There is a narrow chip on the rim, about 1.5" long. It is not sharp to the touch.
This mixing bowl could start or finish a 1940s Primary Colors Set! Don't be afraid to use this beauty. Just don't put it in the dishwasher. Enjoy!
