A cherished original from the golden age of board games, this 1937-1938 Blue Box Monopoly set comes complete with all its pieces intact. Loved and played through the decades, it's a wonderful piece of gaming history for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Game History:
Parker Brothers signed a contract with Charles B Darrow on March 19, 1935 and began selling Monopoly shortly thereafter. They quickly learned that the first patent actually belonged to Elizabeth Magie who's patent (after purchasing it from her) of 1,509,312 was the first to appear on the game after "Trade Mark" and then "Patent Pending".
Game Details:
- Until 1958, Parker Brothers sold Monopoly with a small utensil box, alongside the board, as a set, as well as the standard long-box version.
- Board has a lot of wear and staining on the facing.
- The box is in rough condition. Please see pictures. Some of the dividers are missing.
- The instructions and "short game" rules are present and very worn. There is a Parker Brothers ad insert included.
-
All utensils are present. This version has 7 wooden playing pieces and wooden dice. The money are the small bills and are worn, especially the 1's. The property cards are in pretty good shape, but are stained with age.
Games contain small pieces and are not intended for children under the age of 4.
