Game History:

Parker Brothers used the graphics from L. Frank Baum's map of Oz to create this gorgeous game in 1921. The rules were copyrighted in 1922. Tracing the date of the different versions is difficult as the copyrights were not updated, due to the lack of changes to the game board or the rules. This game was distributed in a long box with a stunning lithographic label of Dorothy, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and the Lion. It was also distributed as a set: the board with a small utensil box. If you're lucky, you might find a version with the pewter tokens, but those sets go for well over $1,200!

Game Details:

  • If you're a fan of the Broadway Musical Wicked, the face of the board is the opening curtain at the beginning of the show!
  • GORGEOUS lithograph colors on board facing! Incredible condition for it's 100+ years. There are a few light creases. An example is under the closeup of Dorothy.
  • ALL 4 tokens, the green shaker cup, and ALL 6 wooden dice (VERY hard to come by!) that spell out W-I-Z-A-R-D are present and in great condition. The instructions are complete, but separated.
  • Structurally, the box is in rough shape. All four aprons (sides) of the lid were held together by very old box tape that was peeling off. I have made minimal repairs to help keep the lid together. Thankfully, the amazingly beautiful top with the colorful label, is very much in tact. The bottom of the box has lots of tears and also has the old tape, which I have left in place. All original inserts are present.

Games contain small pieces and are not intended for children under the age of 4.
