1899 McLoughlin Brothers Lotto Game Number 417B
1899 McLoughlin Brothers Lotto Game Number 417B
This antique lotto game is a charming addition to any collection, evoking the nostalgia of simpler times.
This 1899 McLoughlin Brothers Lotto (No. 417B) game is in fantastic condition and such a fun find! Lotto precedes Beano and Bingo and plays pretty much the same way.
Game History:
Lotto (or Loto) is very similar to Bingo (or Beano). Some instructions indicate that the winner is the first person to complete a row on their card. Other versions of Lotto indicate that the entire card needs to be covered to win the game. McLoughlin Brothers were known for their gorgeous artwork, both in games and books. They used chromolithography for their games, including incredible colors and graphics. Their game division was purchased by Milton Bradley in 1920.
Game Details:
The first mention of this version of Lotto (417 B) that I can find is in the 1886 McLoughlin Brothers catalog. This specific game, with its cover, shows up for the first time in the 1899 catalog. So, so cool.
🎲 The box lid is in amazing condition! The colors are still very rich and it is completely intact with McLoughlin Brothers tell-tale metal corner hinges. The instructions are on the underside of the lid. The bottom portion is in somewhat rough condition. This piece would have been used as the "shaker" which makes the corner wear understandable. It also contains the metal corner brackets.
🎲 There are 82 out of 90 round wooden markers.
🎲 Includes 17 glass markers. A few appear broken. Pennies could be used (or beans and buttons as the catalog suggests!) to cover the spaces.
🎲 All 12 cards are present and in great condition!
🎲 Approximately 6.5" x 3.75" x 2"
CONTAINS SMALL PARTS AND IS NOT INTENDED FOR CHILDREN 4 AND UNDER. USE CAUTION WHEN HANDLING THE GLASS MARKERS.
